About

Madeleine Newbolt (b. 1998, London) is a British artist who studied at The University of the Arts London from 2016 to 2019. Her work is held in various private collections in the UK and the Republic of Ireland.

Madeleine is a painter of atmospheric, semi-abstract landscapes. Her practice draws from personal experiences, which she transforms into dreamlike landscapes and abstract natural forms. With a background in fine art photography, her work invites viewers to perceive a landscape through the hazy lens of a camera, just moments before clarity and focus converge to capture a definitive image. It is within this transitional space, the in-between, that her compositions take shape.

Her reference to landscape inherently shifts between the subtle and the explicit, characterised by weather-filled brushstrokes and a visceral sense of place. Madeleine's intuitive painting style offers insight into the concept of the internal landscape and personal musings. Inspired by the Old Masters such as J.M.W Turner, Eugène Delacroix, and Joan Eardley, Madeleine aims to create artworks that evoke an emotional reaction and a nostalgic state of mind.
